WHAT IS IT?

Organic farming is regulated by EC Regulation 834/07, which defines the technical production rules; the products usable for defence, fertilisation, preparation and preservation of products; and the rules for labelling organic products.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and products derived from GMOs are strictly excluded from organic farming methods.

HOW TO SPOT AN ORGANIC PRODUCT

The labels on organic products must include the following:

• the EU organic production logo
• the name of the authorised control body
• the wording “Control body authorised by the MIPAAFT” with the certifying body’s code (e.g. IT BIO 009)
• the code of the controlled company
• e the origin of the raw materials (EU/non-EU)
